Did you know there is a style of house named after a fish?
The flounder house is defined by its asymmetrical roofline; the roofline gives the appearance of half of a hipped roof or half of a gable roof (most common). Flounder fish are asymmetrical, hence the name. There is not a definitive reason as to why structures were built in this manner. The theory is this roof form is easier to construct than a full gable (or hipped) roof, and therefore did not require skilled labor.
